We are excited to announce and invite proposals for SCMA’s 2018 30th Annual Fall Conference, taking place on November 2-3, 2018 at the LA Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Our conference theme is “Striving for Excellence: The Emergence of the Modern Mediator.” This year our honorees are Avis Ridley-Thomas, who will receive the 2018 Cloke-Millen Peacemaker of the Year Award, and Professor Lisa Klerman, who will receive the L. Randolph Lowry Award. Both women have distinguished themselves in the mediation field and have been leaders in developing programs and opportunities for mediators throughout Southern California.
As in past years, this year’s conference will offer full MCLE credit for participants and presenters, and will have varied programming to accommodate the unique interests of the mediation community. While we are looking for proposals in all areas, we especially are seeking proposals that are diverse in thought and presenters. Our conferences traditionally include collaborative law, world-view/community mediation, the business and marketing of mediation, as well as advanced “practicum” training and topics.
In keeping with our theme, “Striving for Excellence: The Emergence of the Modern Mediator,” we welcome unique, cutting edge proposals with outside-the-box and/or interactive, presentations, as well as those which may be more traditional, theory-based or practice-oriented. We are asking that proposals focus on the learning outcomes and skills that participants attending the presentation will be able to utilize. We encourage workshops that focus on different forums, career opportunities, and emerging markets for mediators, and while proposals likely to generate broad interest and appeal will be accepted, we also welcome more narrowly-tailored ideas.
Proposals must be submitted on or before August 10, 2018:
- Initial notifications commence by mid to late August 2018.
- If notified, panel registrations and confirmations, final workshop descriptions, presenter biographies and photos will be due by August 31, 2018.
- All final conference materials, including MCLE materials, must be submitted by October 5, 2018.
For this year’s conference, we are happy to offer selected presenters and panelists with a discounted conference registration rate which includes the ability to attend conference activities on Saturday, November 2, 2018 (with the exception of the Advanced Track), along with lunch and refreshments. Presenters must register online no later than October 5, 2018. Presenters also are welcome to join us for the opening conference dinner on Friday, November 1, 2018 and will be given a discounted price.
Please contact our conference co-chair, Angela Reddock-Wright (angelareddock@gmail.com) or the Executive Director, Anne Sawyer (anne@scmediation.org) with any questions regarding your proposals. We are here to help!
